The Rev. Dr. F. Paul DeHoff, Pastor

Beth Coffman, Editor May 2017

…..from the Pastor’s desk

On one occasion Jesus was speaking with his disciples about discipleship when he said, “If you continue in my word you are truly my disciples: and you will know the truth and the truth will make you free”. When before Pontius Pilate Jesus said, “Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice”. Pilate answered, “What is truth?” That is the question of many today, “…what is truth?” I think Pilate knew more about truth than he wanted to admit; and I think the same is true of us – we know more about what is true than we may want to admit, for we are convicted by truth. God in Jesus, the Christ, has drawn near to us and his Voice speaks – it speaks truth. The nearer we are to the source of this Voice the more we know of truth. The nearer we are to the source of this Voice the more we will allow ourselves to be guided by truth. This Voice is the source of our moral authority – it is the authority of God; the authority of God is the authority of Love – amazing, divine love that demands my heart, my soul, my all – and gives us Life abundant and eternal! Thanks be to God!

Those who are working the Tag Sale are asked to make room for our customers by parking along the Carriage Road running along behind the church, which you access from Highland Ave. (which is between our parking lot and the Fire House). It will be marked with a parking sign. Those for whom parking along the Carriage Road is not advised may park behind the Education building. Please note the signs for Furniture Pick Up and do not block that route in and out. Thanks.

The renewal of baptismal vows will be a part of our Lord’s Day Service on Sunday, May 14th at 11:00 a.m.
Baptism is our initiation into the church; our fortification to meet life with all its joy, disappointment, suffering and death “as more than conquerors” through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Theologians call it the “prevenient” grace of God; grace that existed before us; is not not dependent upon us. We are renewing our acceptance of that grace.

The Dinner Club met on Saturday, April 8th. It was chaired by Sharon and Carter Dorzbacher and Joyce Skiko. We were entertained with a karaoke machine and the talents of all. Thanks to all who brought food! The Dinner Club will be having a plant sale in conjunction with the Spring Tag Sale. The next “meeting” will be a hay ride on Sunday September 10th. If you are interested in joining the Dinner Club or coming to a dinner as a guest, please speak to Joyce Skiko, Carol Erdman or the Church Office.
If you are not already receiving the Tower Chimes by email and wish to do so, please contact the Church Office at

What is this place where we are meeting?
Only a house, the earth its floor,
walls and a roof, sheltering people,
windows for light, an open door.
Yet it becomes a body that lives
when we are gathered here,
and know our God is near.

Words from afar, stars that are falling,
Sparks that are sown in us like seed:
names for our God, dreams,
signs and wonders
sent from the past are all we need.

We in this place remember and speak
Again what we have heard:
God’s free redeeming word.

And we accept bread at this table,
broken and shared, a living sign.
Here in this world, dying and living,
we are each other’s bread and wine.
This is the place where we can receive
what we need to increase:
our justice and God’s peace.
