Beth Coffman, Editor                                                                        November 2017

…..from the Pastor’s desk

Do you recall Marshall McLuhan’s book “The Medium Is The Message”?  I’ve been thinking about that lately.  What was he talking about?  What am I to understand?  I am certain there is more to understand than I understand, or am capable of understanding.  What I think I understand is this:  It is important how, when, and where we speak the thoughts, ideas, and concepts that formulate in our minds.  I have been misunderstood because I expressed a thought at the wrong time, and in the wrong place, and in the wrong tone.  Hence, my thought, which may be perfectly good, is misunderstood because I, the medium, am the message and I am in the way of my message.  If this makes no sense to you it may be because I have gotten in the way of what I wanted to say.

Christianity is an incarnational faith.  Yes, Jesus is God incarnate to us, God in the flesh.  And, we incarnate the faith to one another; we incarnate the church; we incarnate hope; we incarnate love.  Such is the grace of God; thanks be to God.

HARVEST FAIR – Gross receipts from the Harvest Fair, held Oct. 20, 21 & 22, to date are: $41,016.15.  The people to acknowledge and thank are many, but we are especially thankful to the following: Matt Mattoon, Beth Coffman, Joyce Skiko, Nancy Schellhas, Victoria Mattoon, Rosalyn DeHoff, Rita Chapin, and Joan Coffman, all of whom are department heads.  In addition we thank those who worked with them, including those who directed the Parking and counted the Receipts!  THANKS!

P.S.  – I am certain you have wondered who keeps all the “stuff” we have given to us from burying us – it is PETER – yes, Peter DeHoff!  Thanks Peter!

THANKSGIVING OFFERING

We, here in the surrounding areas of Union Church, are blessed with such abundance that we tend sometimes to forget that there are those who “have not”.  That is why there is The Food Bank of Westchester.  This organization serves over 300 communities throughout Westchester with food pantries, soup kitchens,  child and adult care centers and shelters.  That is a tall order!!  Once again, we have a chance to make a difference in the lives of those not as fortunate as we are.  You will be receiving a Thanksgiving offering envelope soon.  Please help the Food Bank of Westchester in their mission to eradicate hunger in Westchester.  Thank you.

Carole Erdman, Chairman

Benevolence Committee

PASTORAL ENDOWMENT

The Union Church Pastoral Endowment was created to ensure that Union Church always remains a living church with a pastor  and congregation, and not just be an                                                               art museum.  Please consider the Pastoral Endowment when making memorial gifts and in your benevolence giving. and estate planning.

NOW THANK WE ALL OUR GOD

Now thank we all our God with heart and hands and voices,  who wondrous things hath done, in whom this world rejoices, who from our mothers’ arms, hath blessed us on our way with countless gifts of love, and still is ours today.

O may this bounteous God through all our life be near us, with ever joyful hearts and blessed peace to cheer us; and  keep us in God’s grace, and guide us when perplexed, and free us from all ills in this world and the next.

All praise and thanks to God, who  reigns in highest heaven, to Father and to Son and Spirit now be given. The one eternal God, whom heaven and earth adore, the God who was, and is, and shall be evermore.
