..from the Pastor’s desk

The First Sunday of Advent is December 3; it is New Year’s Day on the Church Year calendar:  Happy New Year!  When we follow the Church Year calendar in our public worship we are led through the great moments of our common faith:  Advent with its reflections on the coming of Christ as Savior and as Judge; Epiphany with its celebration of the Light of the world; Lent with its emphasis on the path of the disciple seeking to follow the Lord; Holy Week and Good Friday when the rhythm of that one holy life reaches to the depths; Easter with its carillons of victory and hope; Pentecost that celebrates the Spirit and its gifts.  There is nothing sacred about the Church Year.  I find it good to be reminded of the great rhythms of the gospel, the good news that the God who has made day and night, summer and winter, is also the God who has entered into the rhythms of your life and mine.

Yea, Lord we greet thee,

Born this happy morning,

Jesus to Thee be all glory given;

Sing, choirs of angels, Sing in exultation!

Sing all ye citizens of heaven above!

Glory to God, all Glory in the highest!
