…..from the Pastor

’s desk

Easter continues – that is the “good news” (gospel) of the church.  We do not deplore Easter bunnies, peeps, chicks, etc., – indeed, we enjoy them!  Easter continues because the tide of evil was reversed; as C. S. Lewis said, “…at Calvary God leaned against the fly-wheel of history and reversed its direction”.   In this one action, confirmed by our Lord’s Resurrection, God concentrated the good news that goodness is stronger than evil and life has triumphed over death.  We may not know what to make of this good news, we may hope it is true, but remain uncertain.  Two disciples on the Emmaus road, too, were uncertain though they walked and talked with the Risen Christ – uncertain until they broke bread with him, and “…then their eyes were opened and they recognized him”.   This can happen to us when we join in a meal shared by a Stranger with whom we have been walking.  It is good to be on the side of the angels.  It is better to know the One who says to us: “In the world you will have trouble.  But courage!  The victory is mine.  I have overcome the world”

MESSAGE TO OUR DEAR UNION

CHURCH FAMILY FROM THE FAMILY OF CHARLIE CARLSON

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks for the outpouring of love and support we have received from so many of you, during Dad’s struggles and his final days with us on this Earth.  He left us surrounded by family, with Reverend DeHoff speaking the very last words he would ever hear, providing comfort and assurance of everlasting life, through our Lord Jesus Christ.

It was a moment we will never forget, and for which we are eternally grateful, such a peaceful transition for him. Dad loved the church, and everyone associated with it, and we believe all of his wonderful years of service are a true testament to that.

With our love and gratitude,

Nancy, Bill and Bobby Schellhas and the rest of the Carlson Family.
