…..from the Pastor’s desk

The Harvest Fair has a gross income, to date, of $37,669!  Thanks to all who made this possible, especially the Chairpersons of the Departments: Matt Mattoon, Beth Coffman, Joyce Skiko, Victoria Mattoon, Rosalyn DeHoff, Rita Chapin and Joan Coffman. Also, thanks to those who directed traffic in the parking lot.

This edition of the Tower Chimes includes an order form for Christmas Poinsettias!  A sign-up sheet for volunteers to light the candles of the Advent Wreath will be available this Sunday, Nov. 4.  December 2 is the First Sunday of Advent.  Christmas gift requests for children from the Grandparent’s Coalition will be available November 18.

You will also be drawn to the November 10 date when we will host the Westchester Reform Temple, and St. James the Less Church, Scarsdale in the first of their programs “Renowned Jewish Artists in Renowned Christian Spaces”.  They are suggesting a $20 donation, at the door.  As a friend/member of Union Church you may enter for the program without paying.  Details of the program are included herewith.

Thanksgiving Eve worship will be at 8 p.m., November 21.  The title of my sermon will be: “Expanding Our Gratitude” – a Fellowship Hour will follow in the Parish Hall.  Our Thanksgiving Offering will go, in it’s entirety, to the Food Bank for Westchester.  For every dollar you give they provide four dollars-worth of food!

Thoughts and Prayers.  When a tragedy happens as in Pittsburgh, to name only one of many, we hear people saying “my thoughts and prayers are with you”.  That is not trite, for IF we truly pray God uses us, engages us, as agents to bring about that for which we pray.  Do pray!

 THANKSGIVING OFFERING

We, here in the surrounding areas of Union Church, are blessed with such abundance that we tend sometimes to forget that there are those who “have not”.  That is why there is The Food Bank of Westchester.  This organization serves over 300 communities throughout Westchester with food pantries, soup kitchens,  child and adult care centers and shelters.  That is a tall order!!  Once again, we have a chance to make a difference in the lives of those not as fortunate as we are.  You will be receiving a Thanksgiving offering envelope soon.  Please help the Food Bank of Westchester in their mission to eradicate hunger in Westchester.  Thank you.

Benevolence Committee

Christmas gift requests for children, distributed through the Grandparents Coalition of Westchester will be available beginning November 18.   People are asked to buy one gift from the wish list of three items and spend no more than $40.  Help to brighten  a child’s Christmas.  Gifts are due back to the church on December 16.

Be sure to attach the form to the outside  of the wrapped gift  so that all information is readable and will get to the correct agency and  child.

  CHRISTMAS POINSETTIA

A Christmas Poinsettia order form is included in this Tower Chimes and will be distributed in our Sunday service bulletins. Please complete and return your form, along with your check, no later than December 9.  All checks should be made payable to Union Church.  Remember to print legibly so your dedication will be accurate in the bulletin.  Thank you!
